The Carbon Busters #deep_encounters

About This Project

#deep encounters invited viewers into the space of a disused mine in Mannersdorf/Leithgebirge, a former limestone exploration site. The second major encounter in public spaces by The Carbon Busters took place on November 30th, 2024.

Buried and obscured, only their voices, gaseous manifestations, and imprints remain as echoes. The Carbon Busters set off on three exploratory and participatory interventions, as well as a sound performance with carbon spectres from the underground. Are the deep geological strata a potential reservoir for the sequestration of toxins, or for our future?

The Carbon Busters ran from April 1, 2024, until February 1, 2025. It was funded by the Federal Government of Lower Austria (Departments: Art in Public Space and Science and Research) and Weitblick GmbH and hosted by the art association Flechtwerk.
